'Rock bottom': San Antonio doctor addicted to opioids wrote fake prescriptions for 40,000 doses
San Antonio Express-News, by Guillermo Contreras; 1/23/24

Paul M. Silva, 46 — who previously ran Libertad Internal Medical Group on Thousand Oaks Drive on the North Side — wasn’t allowed to write prescriptions after his practice shut down and he failed to renew his medical license in 2021. But that didn’t stop him, federal authorities say, from issuing hundreds of prescriptions to himself, family members (some of them dead) and fake patients for oxycodone, hydrocodone, tramadol and other powerful drugs between Aug. 31, 2021, and March 27, 2022. ... His LinkedIn account said he worked as a contract medical director for Alamo Hospice from June 2014 to October 2019, as a full-time medical director at WellMed Medical Management from December 2011 to November 2018 and as a contract physician at Sound Physicians from December 2015 to October 2018.
