New administration’s appointees confirmed to lead key health agencies

Several presidential appointees have been confirmed to lead key health agencies that the Association for Clinical Oncology (ASCO) will work with during the new administration. These include:
- Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., JD, as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), sworn in by President Donald J. Trump on February 13, 2025.
- Jayanta Bhattacharya, MD, PhD, as Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), sworn in April 1.
- Martin A. Makary, MD, MPH, as Commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), sworn in April 1.
- Mehmet Oz, MD, MBA, as Secretary of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), confirmed on April 3.
- The nominee for Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Susan Monarez, PhD, is expected to be confirmed by the Senate at a future date.
